Cllr Davies farms 350 acres in partnership with his wife Bethan who is also a teacher and Justice of the Peace. He is a fluent Welsh speaker and lives with his wife Bethan at Cwmbetws Eglwyswrw, in North Pembrokeshire. They have two children Harri and Esther both live and work locally. John was born in 1963. The farming business comprises of a dairy enterprise and Renewable Energy Generation comprising of wind and solar power.

 

From 2008 until May 2012 he was the Leader of the Welsh Local Government Association and was leader of Pembrokeshire County Council from 2004 till 2012. He remains a member of Pembrokeshire County Council representing Cilgerran since 1999 as an Independent Councillor. At the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales in Cardiff in 2018 he was made a member of the Gorsedd of Bards in recognition of his contribution to ‘Welsh Life’.

 

He has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society since 2012. At the 2015 Royal Welsh Show he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Agricultural Societies of the UK for his continued services to agriculture. For nine years he was appointed by the Director General of Electricity Supply as the farming and rural voice on the Electricity Consumer Council and subsequently became a member of Energywatch Wales for four years.

 

His public appointments include Chairman of the Panel on behalf of Welsh Ministers to appoint Members to the Agricultural Appeals Panel for Wales.  He was appointed in 2010 by the Culture Secretary as a member of S4C Authority until completing his second term in 2018. He is currently a Non-Executive director of Meat Promotion Wales appointed by Welsh Government to represent the interest of the farming community. His interest in renewable energy extends to being a member of the Advisory Board for Bute Energy. 

 

He spends much of his spare time as Chairman of the High Sheriff of Dyfed Trust Fund and is a former High Sheriff of Dyfed. He is also the Chairman of the Pembrokeshire Energy Workforce Foundation. John was the inaugural Chairman of the Agricultural Charity Tir Dewi, established to be an advocacy service for farmers. He remains a Trustee of the charity. John continues to regularly contribute to Welsh television and radio current affairs programmes.
